Good Time to Go: anytime other than late December to early March. Entry Point: Besisahar/ Bus from Kathmandu Exit Point: Beni /Bus to Kathmandu
Trail condition: The trails are well defined and marked. Avoiding the road at places is possible if you look for the red-white sign of the New Annapurna Trekking Trail. The path after crossing the Thorung La can be tricky especially if it rains. Rockfall can be an issue in places.
Accommodation: There are lodges at least every other hour or two along the main route. However, during the peak season in March-Apr and Oct-Nov, it might be difficult to find accommodation especially close to the Thorung La. Luxury lodges are almost non-existent,
Risks: AMS can be an issue. Proper acclimatization is necessary, diamox is not. Check weather updates and consult with local before crossing the Thorung La.
Route Variations: It is possible to bypass the road by using the New Annapurna Trekking Trail (NATT) marked by the red-white signs throughout the trail. It is also possible to avoid beautiful views and interesting monasteries by skipping on Upper Pisang, Gyau and Ngawal. Past Thorung La, you can go to Kagbeni via the quieter trail through Jhong.
Notes: Please note that this is a self-guided trek. Hence, you can customize this trek to your preference. So, what are you waiting for?
