TAL - Twist of Fate

  • 1,665 meters

Locals relate that about 200 years ago the place where the current village is, used to be a small lake which gave the village its name 'Tal'. Also as fate has it, there is a proposed 600 MW hydropower project that will convert the current Tal into a lake sometime in the future.

On a different note, after that steep uphill walk, Tal is such a treat; quiet, quaint and colorful. This is also the first settlement of Manang District and more than just an administrative boundary, notable changes in culture and architecture start to take place from here on. Say goodbye to the lowlands, for now you are entering the mountains even though it doesn't quite feel like it.

There is also a large waterfall at the northern end of the village called Kau khola waterfall and it is most definitely worth a visit. Also look out for Kau or a kind of edible frog that is found there!
