Sonam's deep knowledge of the trails, incredible mountain expertise (he has years of professional experience, including high-altitude route setting), and impeccable safety standards made our trek a massive success. Cho La Pass can be demanding, but Sonam paced us perfectly, monitored our acclimatization daily, and made us feel incredibly secure every step of the way. Beyond his professionalism, his logistics were flawless, from securing the best teahouses to managing every detail of our itinerary. He didn't just show us the mountains; he shared the rich local culture with us. We couldn't have asked for a better leader, companion, and professional guide. Highly recommended!

Sonam SherpaLakpa took us to ABC from Chomrung and back in a few days, and was the best possible guide. He found a way to ensure everyone could progress at their own pace, while being completely available for any questions or chats that came up during the hikes! He is also extremely funny and we loved inviting him when playing card games in the evening, as his company lights up any room! Thanks a lot Lakpa, you’re the best :)
Lakpa LamaLakpa was such a fun guide helping us get to ABC. Very patient, funny and matches the energy. He pointed out the sights and temples along the way, made sure we got good prices for stuff, and helped out during dinners, lunches, and breakfast in the lodges. I hope I see this wonderful man soon!

Lakpa LamaUnfortunately, I had bad experience with Madan. He got drunk and behaved inappropriately with me which made me complete the trek solo. I hired Madan to do the Three Passes trek after reading amazing reviews here. As a solo female traveler, it was important for me to find someone that is reliable for such challenging trek like Three Passes. In the middle of the trek, Madan stayed out drinking, to the point that staff at the tea house we stayed at had to carry him to his room. To make matters worse, he was incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional with me the next morning. It got to the point where I no longer felt comfortable or supported, so I made the tough call to finish the trek on my own. It’s a shame because he has the skills to be a great guide, but the lack of reliability and respect made it impossible to continue with him. If you're looking for a guide that you can count on, I’d look elsewhere.

Madan RaiWe just finished 18 days with Ramesh and his son Umesh trekking the Tsum Valley and the Manaslu Circuit. I called and booked Ramesh from our home in Alaska because several of my friends had been trekking with him over the last 10 years and had been very happy. The two of them did an amazing job of making this challenging trek a great success and wonderful experience for both my wife and I. Ramesh took care of all the food lodging permits and transportation so all we had to do was show up and walk!! Umesh nicknamed the Mountain Goat took much of our gear and paved the way every day whereas I took up the rear often arriving at our destination hours later with Ramesh patiently keeping me safely on track the whole way!! I couldn’t imagine a better team to keep you safe and happy in the Himalayas than Ramesh and Hairy Yak Adventures!!

From start to finish, every aspect of the trip was exceptional, and a huge part of that was down to Ramesh’s professionalism, knowledge, and genuinely kind nature. We loved every single part of the experience and will without hesitation trek with Ramesh again in the future. His son, Umesh, was our porter and was also brilliant. We thoroughly enjoyed their company throughout. From the very beginning, Ramesh helped us plan everything seamlessly. Before we arrived in Nepal, Ramesh helped us prepare for the trip, offering clear advice on where to stay in Kathmandu, where to visit, and how to make the most of our time before and after the trek. He was always available to answer questions and made the entire planning process feel easy and stress free - we arranged a face time call with Ramesh a few weeks before travelling to discuss the itinerary and what to expect. We arrived in Nepal a few weeks before our trek started - even though we were not officially paying for his services at that point, Ramesh helped us source local SIM cards, guided us through withdrawing cash, and took care of transportation arrangements, including negotiating with operators so we never felt taken advantage of. These details made a huge difference and allowed us to focus entirely on enjoying the journey ahead. One thing that truly set Ramesh apart was how calm and reassuring he was at all times. Throughout the 20 days on the trail, we never felt stressed or worried. He was always one step ahead, anticipating what we needed before we had to ask. His deep knowledge of the Manaslu and Tsum Valley region was obvious every day, from trail conditions, weather, acclimatisation, local culture and food. Before the trek began, Ramesh came to our apartment in Kathmandu to review our gear. He checked what we had packed, advised us on what was suitable, and recommended what additional clothing and equipment we should buy/hire. This attention to detail gave us complete confidence heading into the mountains. On top of all this, Ramesh is simply a great person to spend time with. He is friendly, funny, always punctual, and a pleasure to talk and trek with. By the end of the journey, he felt more like a friend than a guide - we were feeling quite emotional that it was over. If you are considering trekking in Nepal, we cannot recommend Ramesh highly enough. This trip exceeded all our expectations, and we have already decided that when we return to Nepal, Ramesh will be our guide again. Thank you for everything, we will remember this trip forever! He surely knows every step on the trek and his advice and experience were invaluable. He is from Lukla so he knows both the trails and people around, so in case there are any problems we can assure you, he can solve them. Even though the trek was quite challenging (especially the part after EBC), he made sure we are safe and comfortable all the time. Hire Madan and I assure you, nothing bad can happen to you😄 It was so much fun talking with him and playing cards with him, his English is also great.
