We did a 13 day trek with Sonam and the team from 8848 and had the most amazing time! We did a trek to EBC and back thru chola pass. Everything about the trek exceeded our expectations. The food and accommodations were fantastic and Sonam went above and beyond to make this once and a lifetime trip truly unforgettable. Sonam took time to explain things to us as we encountered things along the way and was patient with our many stops for photos, even doubled as a photographer for our group snapping pictures and videos for us along the way. Sonam even arranged massage appointments for us in Namche on our way back to Lukla. We did a private trek with Sonam and the team and I was soooo thankful to not be in some of the large groups we came across on the trek. It also meant that Sonam could tailor the trek based on our group needs and preferences. Honestly, I think we had the best guide in the Himalayas!! It was a really great pleasure to spent our trek EBC and Gokyo with Sonam Sherpa during our trip in October 2024 one week later after terrible floods in Kathmandu Valley. We had a brilliant trek with Sonham, Memaw and Gangche as our team of guides and porters. They were reliable, attentive and kind. Sonam Mts assisted in achieving my personal goal of reaching Kala Pathar. Sonam Mts was organised, consistently checked on my welfare as we reached higher altitude and was open to last minute changes in schedule. I would highly recommend Sonam if you are looking for a guide who is very knowledgeable, caring and willing to always go above and beyond. My son and I were with Sonam for 14 days trekking to Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar and Chola Pass. It all began with us not being able to get a flight to Lukla due to weather. Sonam hiked to meet us in Bupsa (instead of Lukla) as we took a bus and jeep. Every step of the way on our trek, Sonam took care of us including finding nice accommodations, showing us local points of interest and even included giving us fruit with dinner and hot water bottles to keep warm at night. Sonam truly cares about his clients and took a safety first attitude during our trek. I would highly recommend Sonam and will definitely use him again if I return to Nepal!

Sonam was truly a blessing to our group. When we arrived, he was very informative, helpful and patience to our small group. We informed him ahead of time that we would more than likely be quite slow and taking our time. We completed an amazing 8 day trek to EBC with Sonam. Having him as our guide was the best decision we could’ve made. Sonam is very knowledgeable, experienced, super thoughtful and caring. He was extremely patient with us as we were the slowest trekkers on the trail. He never once rushed us or pressured us to go faster. Thanks to him we were able successfully complete the trek. He also organized the best tea houses. We have noticed the Sonam is very well respected and well know throughout out the villages. He was able to help with flights, helicopters and anything we needed. When I go back to do another trek I would not even for a second consider anyone else but Sonam as my guide. I just completed an incredible 13-day trek to EBC + Gokyo with Sonam as my guide. He is not only incredibly experienced, knowledgeable, and well-connected throughout the Everest region, but also one of the most honest and down-to-earth people I've met. Having him as my guide along the trek was one of the highlights of the trip and after having met and observed dozens of other guides along the way, I will say he was probably one of the best I saw in terms of going above and beyond for a client to ensure my trek was safe, frictionless, and fulfilling. After my flight from Kathmandu to Lukla got canceled, he helped me and several other trekkers on my flight get a last-minute jeep to Ramechapp to make it to Lukla on time for the trek. Along the trek, he made sure we were handling the altitude well, booked the best accommodations, took great care to educate and prepare us for each day, taught me a good amount of Nepali, and made sure to share as much knowledge he could about the region, the mountains, and its history. After the trek, he made sure to stay with me and help me make it onto a flight back which was challenging after the Lukla airport had been closed for several days prior. He's well respected and known by many of the locals we came across at the different villages along the way and consequently was able to accommodate any small requests I may have had. There were also several occasions when he went out of his way to help other solo trekkers with logistics, flights, the trail, etc. I had a great time with Sonam, enjoyed his jokes and our conversations but also appreciated the space and quiet he offered at times so I could just enjoy the peaceful nature of the mountain. I will definitely be working with Sonam for a future summit trek in the region, and will be recommending him to any friends or family that plan to do EBC or similar.

We were trekking with Sonam to the Everest Base Camp and we enjoyed it a lot! We aren’t used to having a guide, but Sonam quickly adjusted to our needs, so we made a very good team. He was in touch with us a lot in advance and helped us with preparing the itinerary of the trek and consulted things such as packing and preparing for the EBC. He knows the mountains quite well, so we always knew, which peaks were around us. We learned a lot about Nepal and Sherpa culture and had also a lot of fun. He taught us some basic Nepalese words, always booked perfect accommodation and helped us with tickets to Lukla. He picked us up at the airport in Lukla and stayed with us until our flight back to Kathmandu.  He made lots of great pictures and videos of us to collect all the beautiful memories. When we come back next time, we definitely want to do trekking with Sonam again!

My wife and I trekked to EBC in November of 2022 and it was quite simply the hardest and most incredible thing we have ever done. Life changing. Sonam was the best guide we could have asked for. He was more than a typical guide - he was a friend as we could crack jokes with him, play games and chill together. We had one of the best yet challenging trekking experiences of our lives. We finished Everest Base Camp trek last week with our guide, Sonam, Deepak and company. We met the guide in Lukla and spent next seven days with him. Though the trekking was planned for 12 days, we flew out of Gorakshep on 8th day after reaching the base camp and it was our decision. Throughout the trekking our guide went above and beyond to make this trekking the best one. The guide gave us honest and accurate information about next day and possible adverse scenario, checked on our medical condition constantly, made sure we were well fed, hydrated, warm and content. Most of our days were snowy during the trek, however the guide seemed to make wise decision on whether to move or stay. He would explain all the sights on the way. He is very friendly and well recognized in the area as you could see this through his dealings with hotels and local people. He could even manage extra blankets if you needed. Requesting him for taking pictures and arranging fun stuffs, did not seem to bother him. He never seemed to be annoyed from any member of our group and was ready to help and serve for 24/7 . His kindness is beyond appreciable. This trek will be unforgettable for so many reasons including having guide like him whom I can call brother or friend forever. I would absolutely recommend this guide for your trip if you are planning in near future.

From the initial contact to the end of the trek, Sonam's communication skills were exceptional. He was always available to answer any questions and was very prompt in his responses. Sonam's knowledge of the region was impressive, and he booked us in the best Tea houses along the way. He took us off the beaten track to get some stunning photo opportunities, and his attention to safety was reassuring. Every night, he would brief us on the walking routes, check our equipment, and even check our heart rates and oxygen levels. I didn't see any other guide doing this in the tea houses. The trek was truly a trip of a lifetime, and Sonam made it even more special with his friendly and approachable personality. I cannot recommend him highly enough. My husband and I just finished an incredible 16 day trip with Sonam. He is very professional and knowledgeable. He arranged everything good including our flight back to Kathmandu on time( recently the weather is not good in Lukla). My husband is a slow walker and Sonam was always with him. He finished Kongmala pass with Sonam’s help. Sonam always put safety as the first thing and he always try his best to fulfill my needs. He knows every mountain’s name and everything on the road. He can give us more knowledge than just the view of mountains. I’d like to have Sonam to guide me again when I am going to do the rest 2 passes and island peak.

My girlfriend and I just finished Everest Base Camp Trek with Sonam ( mid March 2023). Sonam was great from the beginning till the end. His english is on good level.( It was not always perfect but we understood each other). He explained to us every evening what we are going to do next day and always told us to just relax our body and mind. He knows a lot of people in all villages along the way. Thanks to his connections we had hot tee brought to us in EBC. Sonam is knowledgeable about the mountains, local traditions and culture. On the way back we spent one night in his house where we have seen how lokal food is made and I must say it was the best Dal Bhat and Momo that we ever had. We had great time with Sonam. We just finished EBC trek, it took 12 days as planned. We were really happy we choosed Sonam. We were in touch on Whats Up before trek and sometimes it was chaotic and we did not understand each other well. But he is nice guy, trustworthy and when we met in Lukla we really liked him from first moment. Comunication was good after that and everything was clear during trek. Sonam organazied everything very well, we had nice hotels, he took care about our flights, permits. On the way back,when we had bad weather and our flight was delayed he managed helicopter ride for us. He really cared about us, he took us to his home and it was amazing experience. His parents allowed us to be in their kitchen and watch how they cook. They prepared the best meal for us and we absolutely loved it! We also tried traditional Sherpa clothes. Thank you for everything.

We had an amazing 15 days (EBC/chola/gokyo) with Sonam. He arranged everything for us and he ensured that we were looked after well. He knows a lot of owners from the guest houses, so we could always get something extra (for instance an extra blanket). He explained every night how the next day would look like, and was always honest about the time it will take and how heavy or easy it will be. We took enough breaks and it never felt like we had to rush. He checked how we felt during the hike, but also with the altitude and gave advices about what to do and what we shouldn’t do. His English is good as well. The most important thing for us during the trek, was that we had a lot and a lot of fun. There can be moments it’s heavy, but with humor it was easy to keep on going. We were with 2 Dutch girls from 30 years old and really enjoyed our time, the trekking is amazing and Sonam is a great guide. Also the porter he took, moasam did a great job.

I recently did a 16 day ebc trek with Sonam and his porter, Deepak. From first contact to the final goodbye, Sonam was always available and had all the answers. It’s pretty clear that he’s spent years creating great relationships with all the teahouse owners which means he’s able to make his guests as comfortable as humanly possible. Sonam’s friendly nature meant that we were able to become friendly quite quickly which is important for long trips like this. His positive attitude was always helpful when things got tough too. Sonam has great knowledge of wildlife, culture and history and is more than willing to share that with his guests. All in all, it was a great trip and Sonam played a massive part in making it such a success.

Sonam made our trek to Everest base camp absolutely magic. He is so kind and thoughtful in everything he does. He is educated on the area and takes you safely along the trek, with the right amount of acclimatization. We where also lucky enough that Sonam showed us all the local gems, which we where so grateful for! We were able to join him and his local friends for snooker, badminton and local market among.. other things along our trek. It was never a dull moment! He kept his spirit high and vibrant throughout the whole trek, even when the cold and sleepless nights did hit us from time to time. Honestly we could not have asked for a better guide!

Sonam was all I could ask for and more in a trekking guide!! Starting out, I wasn’t exactly sure of what trek I wanted to do and had done very little planning. After finding Sonam, he was extremely helpful in the planning phase of the trip, discussing everything from what to bring, what conditions to expect on the trek, flight details to and from Kathmandu to Lukla (he booked them himself which made things hassle free), which trek he thought I would enjoy the most given my physical condition and time restriction. He was just an all round great resource leading up to the trek, making sure that everything went as smoothly as possible. Once we were out on the trail, again… I couldn’t have asked for a better friend and guide to lead me. I ended up doing the EBC / Cho-Lo Pass Trek which was simply incredible. I considered at one point doing the trek solo (in the planning phase) but am so grateful to have chosen Sonam as my guide as he was a great friend to talk to, a great guide to learn about the local area and mountains, and also someone who made sure to monitor my overall mental and physical condition throughout the journey - adjusting / personalizing the trek after giving feedback on how I felt or what things I wanted to see! Sonam! This man is a legend! I booked Sonam for an EBC/Cho La Pass trek when traveling solo in Nepal and he was super supportive every step of the way. We stumbled upon Sonam quite by accident, and we're so glad we did. From the get go he was so friendly and helpful, giving us advice on our flights, where to buy and hire gear in Thamel, as well as happily answering all the other questions we had. When we arrived in Lukla he walked straight up to my wife and I, recognising us from our photos, and greeted us with a huge smile. During our trek Sonam was very patient with us (I like to stop and look at everything..... everything...) and was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, culture, history, landscape, animals, everything, including my incessant asking "what's that mountain?", to which he kindly indulged me with the name and hight, even when it was the same peak I'd asked about the day before. Unfortunately both my wife and I got sick (food poisoning, not alitude) and Sonam was incredibly caring and helpful with us. Despite our little hiccups, Sonam made our trek the most enjoyable trip we have ever had. On our second last night he even introduced us to his mother and son while staying at his family teahouse in Ghat. He is truly an amazing person, such a friendly soul, and has become part of our family. I cannot recommend Sonam enough as a guide, he's just amazing zing zing!

Sonam instilled confidence in his competence and professionalism as a guide for the entirety of our 10-day trek in the Everest region, from chopper pickup to chopper takeoff. We knew we were in good hands from Day 1 as we were treated to a welcome tea at his family home. Sonam is an excellent and reliable communicator and made sure we were comfortable in each village we stayed at and for every leg of the journey. He was flexible enough to accommodate and facilitate itinerary changes, including simplifying helicopter logistics on the back end to ensure we ended the trip on a high note. Sonam enriched the whole journey for us with his easygoing good nature. He was a joy to share conversation with over countless ginger lemon honey teas and hours together on the trail. A friend and I just finished the EBC/Kala Patthar trek with Sonam, and we had the experience of a lifetime! As our guide, Sonam made all the arrangements for where we stayed, and he knew all the best lodges and tea houses. He also helped us arrange for our porter, and when our flight into Lukla was delayed due to weather, he waited nearly two full days for us when I'm sure he could have gotten another gig. He also helped out a lot coordinating our flight back to Kathmandu. Throughout the trek, we always felt that Sonam had our safety in mind, and when he realized that we like to hike, he adjusted our plans to make things a little more challenging, which is what we wanted. I just completed a trek from Lukla to EBC with Sonam and choosing him as our guide was the absolute best decision my friend and I made. Sonam’s super knowledgeable about the Everest region, in terms of culture and history but also the trek itself - always giving us accurate details about distance, time and what to expect in terms of terrain and trail conditions. Sonam is both easygoing and space-giving and at the same time attentive and there if you need anything. We were so well taken care of in every aspect and moment of this trip: from even before our arrival to Nepal, to monitoring our O2 levels as we climbed in elevation, to the very end when we couldn’t fly out of Lukla because of poor weather and Sonam managed to secure us a helicopter so we wouldn’t miss our flight from Kathmandu. The porter he chose was amazing as well- a true superhero with a fun loving attitude even when going uphill with our heavy bags :) Not only did we have an incredible and unforgettable trek to EBC, but we had such a good time with Sonam and are lucky to call him a forever friend.

My friends and I had an amazing trip. During the trip we have managed to be the best of friends and have left with amazing friendship. We would like to maintain the friendship with him. My Fiancé and I booked Sonam for the Everest Base Camp Trek in April 2022. Sonam made himself available day and night to us long before our trek, answering our questions and helping us prepare. From the start, he always went above and beyond what was needed. Sonam’s communication skills were excellent, he answered all of our questions and concerns throughout our journey. He made our trek fun by always keeping a smile on our face and constant positivity, providing information on cultural and geographic knowledge, and provided constant encouragement even on tough days. Sonam also arranged a fantastic porter, who was our smiling superhero during our trek. With our porter, at lodges, and restaurants he took care of everything that needed to be taken care of. I recently completed the EBC trek with Sonam and 2 friends. We struck gold with Sonam. His communication was great, he has a great sense of humour and kept everything fun which is great when your not feeling at your best. He was attentive and looked after us very well. He took us to some unique tea houses one being Pyramid which was just what the doctor ordered given the minus 25 temperature. At all times Sonam was looking out for our safety, a couple of times my friend slipped on ice and without hesitation Sonam put himself at risk to help my friend. I consider Sonam a friend and will be doing more treks with him in the future. Sonam guided our group of five safely from Lukla into the Everest region and up a challenging peak. He showed exceptional knowledge along the way and watched over our safety with great care and thoughtful attention. We grew to trust his judgment and advice implicitly and felt that every decision he made was for our benefit. Hey! This was my first trip to Nepal and EBC. In the beginning, we had a different guide but we said no to him just because the communication was not great, also we needed to cover ticket costs for the guide (Kathmandu - Lukla)... When we arrived at Lukla, we met Sonam at the airport, we had the connection immediately. Sonam introduced the best places to stay and eat. Te be honest, Sonam is a very friendly guy, not "pushy" and he gives that "space" of freedom when you're hiking. The best thing - he knows the English very well and you understand 100%.
