Northern Sparrowhawks are small, have short black wings, striped chest and particularly long tail. Females tend to have much larger growth spurt than males. These lethal hunters are masters of flight control, air movements and stealth art whose prey sometimes never know what hit them. They use their short wings for agile movements. Those sharp small beaks come in handy when plucking and pulling their prey apart. And those long legs and toes are are experts at grasping smaller birds and animals both from the ground and mid- air. They are birds of well-wooded forest and like other sparrowhawks are masters at high-speed chase through the forest canopy.
