Black water
2,540 mAnnapurna Region
Kalopani is a destination in the Annapurna region of Nepal, at 2,540 m. HoneyGuide lists 131 sightings and 1 attraction here.
Kalopani literally means 'black water' in Nepali. It is from here that the
relatively calm Kali Gandaki river narrows down, changes colour and roars down
south with its much-revered rapids. From Kalopani you will realize exactly why
the river's name is Kali Gandaki. "Kali" translates to "black" in English. To
the extreme north of Kalopani, there is a new guest house and a coffee shop
which is much talked about. Then there is the Thakali cultural museum and a
safe water drinking station close to each other. Annapurna I which does not
feature prominently throughout the circuit will be visible from Kalopani.
