Naurikot
That mountain view!
2,730 mAnnapurna Region
Naurikot is a destination in the Annapurna region of Nepal, at 2,730 m. HoneyGuide lists 94 sightings here.
For the mountain views, Naurikot couldn't have been positioned any better. To
the west is the towering Dhaulagiri along with its awe-inspiring icefall and
to the east is the Nilgiri range. So you can have your morning breakfast with
gorgeous views of Dhaulagiri while a contemplative evening tea can be had with
the sun gently fading away from the Nilgiri slopes.
The village is also interesting as a gateway to one of the holiest places in
Lower Mustang, the caves of Guru Sampo. This natural cave is revered as a
place where Guru Rimpoche meditated just as he did in at least a million other
places along the Himalayas and in Tibet. Even though you aren't particularly
religious, you should nevertheless consider paying the cave a visit for the
gorgeous flowers of spring and amazing mountain views of fall.
Naurikot also has a Bonpo Monastery which the caretaker claims is older than
the one at Lubra which is dated at around 1200 AD.
