THUKLA - Rock Flour for Lunch
- 4,615 meters
Thukla, also known as Dughla, lies at the very end of the Khumbu glacier and is usually just a lunch stop. However, if you aren't feeling well because of the altitude, there is accommodation available. Whatever you do, don't push it from here onwards.
Have a closer look at the stream beside Thukla. The milky appearance is because of the rock flour produced by the grinding machinery of Khumbu glacier. As you navigate the steep moraine of the Khumbu Glacier above Thukla, you will be reminded of the fragility of life in the mountains for at the end of the climb are memorial chortens for climbers who weren't lucky enough to come back from Everest.
