A village on the laps of the Shivapuri Hills, Sundarijal is one of the
gateways that takes you away from the chaos of the city and into the grace of
nature.
Here at Sundarijal, a lot of people assemble to start their short hike or a
longer trek that leads them to Chisapani. There is a small bus station at
Sundarijal which will equip you with bus rides to the city and provide you
with tasty snacks. Walk a couple minutes past the Radha Krishna temple and
Ganesh Mandir, and you will come to the National Park Ticket Counter which
will allow you to begin your hike!
Sundarijal literally means "Beautiful Waters"\- a perfect name to describe the
wonderful waterfalls here! You climb up a flight of stairs - you hear the
river flowing past your ears. You walk amidst large fern bodies - you hear a
waterfall shattering the ground nearby. You rest on golden grasses and you
hear birds chattering about the beautiful waters found here. This is why
bikers, cyclists, hikers and canyoners choose to visit this place, which is
just a couple hours from the city.
Another must-go-here factor for many people is the presence of the "Sundari
Mai" temple. This is one of the most revered places in the Kathmandu valley,
and it is also believed that Sundarijal was named after this temple.
So, what are you waiting for? You know nature is calling. Just answer it! Get
your National Park tickets, and begin the journey!
