If you have ever been to a Thakali kitchen then you will see the utensils perfectly displayed on a shelf wall. All the plates and glasses are displayed on a shelf by the Thakali people. It is very practical since the utensils are used everyday and it becomes easy if the utensils are displayed on a shelf where it is easily accessible. Also, it helps for the decoration of the kitchen itself. If you look around you might find a cooking pot or a water dispenser on top of a brass/copper jar. This is iconic in a Thakali house and serves as a decoration item nowadays. A little logic might help understand the practical approach behind it. In ancient days when there was no electricity and water was needed to be kept warm for a long duration, Thakalis used to use these jars for a mild fire and on top would be placed water jars or other cooking pots. This way, water or anything that needed to be kept warm would stay warm. Nowadays there is electricity available and various equipment is available for the same reason, therefore, these items are mere showpieces.
