Swallows are loved by Nepali shopkeepers, for it is considered highly auspicious if a pair nests in a shop. Since they are not persecuted, they are very tame and construct their amazing mud nests in homes and shops. If you are set on seeing one of these nests ask around for 'Gauthali ko Gund' (swallow's nest) either in Kathmandu or up to about 2,500 meters. If it is spring and summer you might even see the babies and parents too. Unlike the Barn Swallow, which is another common swallow in Nepal, these guys build closed retort shaped nests as opposed to open cup shaped ones. One very cautious guy we got here.
