This is one hell of a hairy perennial herb with long lanceolate leaves (15 cm) and tubular (red and purple) flower. Mostly these plants (15 - 45 cm) are found growing in rocks and open slopes. The flower head is usually found looking down not because of some tragic event but because it has too many heads for a single neck. Flower heads are seen to grow in small baby heads attached to the same neck. Its rootstock is big that exudes bright red liquid when crushed. Out of the root of this plant, a bright red liquid can be obtained which is used with mustard oil for coloring hair and also as a dye for other purposes. The plant also comes in handy for fever due to lungs problem, blood purification and high blood pressure.
