Common Windmill

These butterflies with a lazy flight are most commonly encountered of the windmills in the Himalayas. Outside of the Himalayas, these guys are found in South-east Asia and also eastwards up to Taiwan. The reason they fly/float lazily is they don't have to worry about predators. They are one of the many butterflies that are avoided by birds presumably because they taste pretty bad thanks to the fact that they feed on Aristolochia plants during their larval stage. Aristolochia has the distinction of not only giving these butterflies their untouchability but some of the species under this genus are also carcinogenic to human beings.
