This bird is an all year resident but does make altitudinal movements subject to changes in weather. The head, throat and neck of an adult coal tit is glossy blue-black in color. It lower abdomen is seen to be white and upper wings are ashy gray in color. Younger birds in this species seem to be dull and lacking a bit of glossiness on the black head. They scour for food noisily as they hunt in a large group.
