'Panimuhan' means, 'the source of water' in Nepali. And, it really is. This
places fetches water to the houses in the Kathmandu city. Once you enter the
gate in the National Park and take a left turn from there, you can see a small
water body called the 'muhan pokhari.' It supplies 412 liters of water every
second. But, more on this later. For now, go around! Take a stroll.
But before you go, here are some things you should know before you get inside
the gate. Panimuhan is one of the entry points to Shivapuri National Park. In
fact, Panimuhan is the main Entry Post and authority of the Shivapuri-Nagarjun
National Park. To get in, you need to pay the entry fee and provide your name,
address, and phone number. The entry fee details are given below:
Nepali citizen: Rs. 56.5 per person
SAARC citizen: Rs. 339 per person
Foreigners other than
SAARC citizen: Rs. 565 per person
If you plan to take a motorbike, bicycle, helicopter for your hike, here are
some fees that you should pay in addition to the per-head entrance fees.
A motorbike: Rs. 33.9
A Minibus/Bus/Truck: Rs. 665
A Car/Jeep/Taxi/Micro Van: Rs. 339
Mountain Bike: Rs. 100(for Nepalese)
Rs. 1000(for Foreigners)
You will also need to take a guide if you have a large group. However, if you
have a small number of people-- two to three-- in your group, you can request
for a guide-waiver. Tell them that taking guide will be expensive-- in fact,
they are. If you are polite enough, and if you are a Nepali (that's mostly the
case. Sorry foreigners!), they will most probably agree. Below are prices of
guides listed according to the places you want to go:
Panimuhan- NagiGumba: Rs. 800
Panimuhan- Bishnu Dwar: Rs. 1000
Panimuhan- NagiGumba- Bagddwar: Rs. 1,500
Panimuhan-ChhapBhanjyang- Peak: Rs. 15000
Panimuhan- Bishnudwar-Staff College-Budhanilkantha: Rs. 1,500
Panimuhan- NagiGumba/Helipad- Bagdwar- Peak/Tinchule: Rs.1,500
Panimuhan- NagiGumba- Tarebhir- Sundarijal: Rs. 1,700
Panimuhan- Bishnudwar- ChappBhanjyang- Peak: Rs.2,000
Panimuhan- Tinchule- Chisapani: Rs. 3,000 per day(including Guide
accommodation)
P.S: If you are leaving the National Park through Pani Muhan, try to leave
before 5 P.M. If you get late, the armies won't like it.
