Chyamche in Nepali quite literally means….well, not everything has got a
literal meaning in Nepali so get over it. But Chyamche does mean that Lamjung
ends and Manang begins. But it much more than just an administrative boundary,
from here on changes in architecture, culture and religion can be seen quite
clearly. From here on, mud and thatch houses give way to stone houses with
flat roofs, people are mostly of Tibetan origin and the subtropical vegetation
gives way to firs and pines. Also, the Chyamche waterfall has fitted in with
the marketing of some lodges as they boast of having the best view of the
waterfall.
Nowadays, Chyamche serves as the alternate starting point for the Annapurna
Circuit. Ever since the road construction has been completed, trekkers don't
enjoy walking alongside motor roads and the honking of jeeps. So instead, they
drive up to Chyamche and start walking from here.
