This goat-antelope looks clumsy but is a rather agile and active animal both in thickets and cliffs. These guys have a preference for damp and thickly wooded areas and are usually found singly. The Serow is closely related to the Goral, another goat-antelope, and their habitat usually overlaps considerably though gorals are generally found higher. The serow is also much larger. The Serow is locally referred to as a "Tahr" which can cause some confusion given that there is another animal which is called tahr in English. The English Tahr is called Jharal by the Nepalis.
