These plants have star like appearance because of the way the leaves are arranged in groups of 4-9. The whisker like stems appear from the middle of the plant where also lies a ring of purple segments which look like spider segments. This beautiful flower is known for its various advantages in the medical field as well. Paste prepared by rubbing thick root is applied on the forehead during headache and root juice is given in fever. Powder from rhizome is used for cure against fever and food poisoning. Root paste is applied as an antidote to snake bites and poisonous insect bites and also used to alleviate narcotic effects. Chewing a piece of the root is believed to heal internal wounds below the throat while applying it on cuts heals external wounds. We hope the taste won't be much of a problem since the medical qualities surely outweigh the taste. And it doesn't end there, a decoction of root is used in the treatment of ulcers, diphtheria, epidemic Japanese B encephalitis, appendicitis, lymphadenopathy, tonsillitis, parotitis, mastitis and rheumatism
