This trek lies in the lower Solukhumbu Region and also connects the Classic Jiri trail taken by Tenzing and Hillary. While the popularity is increasing rapidly over months, it is still a new and fresh trek and will give you the finest vistas of towering Himalayan range including Everest, Kanchanjungha, Makahlu, Lhotse and many more. The trail will let you explore the culture of the little villages and Sherpa hospitality as you pass the sacred monasteries in Chiwong, Taksindu and Junbesi. During Autumn, you will also indulge in the festivity of Mani Rimdu where masked dances are performed for several days in Chiwong Gompa of Chiwong.
Getting to the start point: A 6-8 hours of drive from Kathmandu will take you to Dhap. If you are in short of time, you also have the option to get in and out by taking a short 30 minute flight via Phaplu.
Accommodation: The trail has basic accommodation without luxurious services, as it wasn’t really developed as a trekking trail until recently. However, as not may travellers pass in huge number yet, you will not have the problem of finding accommodation.
Risks: Avoid the monsoon of June/July as trails can be very wet and slippery. Although it doesn’t snow much in this lower region, it is best advised to be careful during deep winter of Jan/ Feb as you may be hit by snow storm and if it snows, there aren’t trail markers so you might lose the trail.
