This is an easily noticeable bird once you know it and it always has that angry face to it. It's head, nape and abdomen are feathered in rich chocolate brown color. Deep turquoise, in back, tail and wing, is the distinct color that makes it so perceptible even in dense vegetation. During flight, the white feathers in its underwings are also visible. Unlike other kingfishers, these guys can also be found far from water bodies as it feeds on insects, lizards, frogs which it captured with a swift dash from an elevated perch.
