Thanti

Thanti is a Magar word for an open resting house along the trails. They are built either to earn religious merit or in memory of a deceased kin. The fact that so many place names, especially along the Ghorepani trail, end in 'thanti' shows that these little villages were once nothing more than small resting houses.
