Tenzing Norgay

Tenzing Norgay was the most experienced climber in the 1953 British expedition which knocked off Everest. He had been on the mountain six times before and only a year earlier had come to within 200m of the summit with the Swiss. The fact that he was chosen for one of the summit assaults speaks tons for his mountaineering prowess. And he sure didn't disappoint. One crazy fact about him is that he had no idea about his exact birth date, and after the successful climb started celebrating it on May 29.
