Rai People

Rai is another indigenous ethnolinguistic group of Nepal which has a strong influence in Eastern Nepal and beyond to the Indian states of West Bengal and Sikkim. In old Nepali Language, Rai means King. Anthropologists believe that the indigenous community migrated from the east via north Burma and Assam along the mid-hills (lower mountains) with their pigs in ancient times.
