Purbung Himal is a part of the bigger Damodar Himal and is best viewed from Thorung High camp. Thorung High camp that lies on the way to Thorung-La in the Annapurna circuit has a viewpoint from where the mountains look absolutely stunning. Purbung is seen towards the northeast from the camp. Purbung Himal is also spelled Putrung. Many names of mountains and places have changed over the passage of time mostly because of foreign researchers who find it hard to pronounce the names the way it is supposed to be pronounced in the local dialect. Once it gets printed in maps and books, the new tweaked name catches on. Anyways, Purbung along with Purkang, Jinjang and Yakawa Kang are very close and are the sources of the mighty Marshyangdi river.
