Local legend has it that the area around this mountain has a secret door through which the pure of heart can transcend into the realm of immortals. This folklore perhaps has its basis in the legend that Lama Sanga Dorje meditated in a hermitage here. You can still see a small hermitage in the southern slopes of this mountain from Dingboche. While some pious local make a circumambulation of this mountain, the slopes leading to the small hermitage and a viewpoint (Nangkartsang) is popular for acclimatization walks from Pheriche and Dingboche.
