There are many popular Cheese trails around the world to connect cheese enthusiasts with cheese farmers and nature. These cheese trails always seem to have one sole purpose of being there, and that purpose revolves around the cheese. Numbur Cheese Circuit is a lesser-known cheese trail from Eastern Nepal which follows various highland yeak cheese farms forming a circuit around the Numbur range. Off beaten path full of yaks and the glacial lake is what makes this circuit special. Popular amongst European cheese enthusiasts, the circuit is a mixture between mountains, grasslands, terraced rice fields, subtropical forests and Sherpa villages of Solukhumbu and Ramechhap. Starting from Shivalaya, it follows Likhu River valley up to the remote yak pastures of Ngeju nestled at the foot of the ice-fall tumbling from the sacred summit of Numbur. The path wrestles with deep gorges, scared snow peaks, glacial lakes and lush green grass fields for yaks to munch on. The trail is about 12 days long and although there are yak farms and monasteries on the path where you can ask for shelter, taking own camp is the wisest thing to do if you are headed to Numbur as lodges and tea houses are not available.
