Ngadi Chuli is also famous as "Peak 29" and as "Dakura". It lies in the thickets of Manasari Himal range right next to Manaslu peak towards the south. The water from this peak flows down and gets collected in a glacial lake by the name of Dona lake. Talking about the height, this mountain comes in the 20th position in terms of highest mountains in the world. And it just about misses the spot in top 10 mountains of Nepal as it sits in the 12th spot. Surprisingly, there has only been one successful ascent till date. That came in 1979 when Polish climbers Ryszard Gajewski and Maciej Pawlikowski took on the west buttress of the mountain. There haven't been any recorded ascents after this one. There were previous attempts, however. The more famous one was an attempt by a Japanese expedition group in 1970. Whether they successfully ascended the peak is still a mystery because on their way back they were victims of a fatal fall which took their lives. Along with their lives, their cameras and equipment were also lost and so no evidence of their ascent is present. Several Japanese expeditions were carried out later in 1974, 1978 and 1982 but none of them were successful. The ascent of 1979 is the only recorded attempt that was successful.
