Machhapuchhre's western ridge streches and gives rise to a lesser distinct mountain named Mardi Himal. Chances are you have already seen this mountain if you have seen Machhapuchhre. The only thing is you haven't noticed it since it gets lost in front of the much bigger and beautiful Machhapuchhre. Considered a hidden gem and an ideal introduction to mountaineering in the high himalaya, few trekkers make their way their way to Mardi Himal. The trek takes you through thick rhododendron forest and unspoiled terrain upto 4800 m. Amongst Jimmy Robert's (a.k.a JOM Roberts) many successful ascents Mardi Himal must be amongst his least proud ascents simply because of the easier climb compared to other grander climbs. He was the first to conquer Mardi Himal along with two Sherpas via the East flank in 1961.
