Lama Gulu

Lama Gulu was born to a wealthy trader in Khumjung and it was only at an advanced age that he devoted himself to a life in religion. After studying in Tibet he came back to Khumbu and upon the urging of the Abbot of Rongphu Monastery, established the now famous Tengboche Monastery. A couple of years later he also established the Devoche Monastery and the associated nunnery. He died shortly after Tengboche Monastery collapsed during the earthquake of 1933.
