If you have done the Thorung pass then you must have definitely heard of Khatung Kang and Yakawa Kang. Khatung Kang and Yakawa Kang are the two mountains that make the Thorung pass and anyone who has done the pass will surely have seen these gems. Khatung Kang and Yakawa Kang sit like guards of the Thorung pass; whilst the one to the south is Khatung Kang and the one to the north is Khatung Kang. And what's amazing is that the height of these mountains is almost the same. Yakawa Kang stands at 6482m and Khatung Kang stands at 6484m, that's a difference of mere 2 meters! These two mountains along with the pass separate Manang from Mustang and both of these mountains belong to the Damodar Himal massif. Thorung La is about 2.7 km northeast of Khatung Kang and the first ascent of this mountain was done by a Swiss climber in 1956. The view from the peak must have been absolutely amazing with both Kali Gandaki valley and Marshyangdi valley right before your eyes. Suffice to say, it is a very tempting mountain.
