Khata

Khata is a ceremonial scarf presented as a show of respect. It is usually made of silk and is put around the neck as a scarf. Nothing is expected in exchange, except perhaps a smile. However, presenting such a khata to a lama follows a different etiquette. You should present the khata on the lama's hand with heads bowed rather than putting it around his neck.
