Indian Red Admiral
Indian Red Admiral (Vanessa indica) is a wildlife & flora sighting recorded around Fulbari Gate, Raniban, Pachali Bhairav.
- Scientific name
- Vanessa indica
- Category
- Wildlife & Flora
Being closely similar to the painted lady & the European Red Admiral, the Vanessa indica is a butterfly dominant in the higher altitude regions of India, mostly the Himalayas and the Nilgiri Hills. Being territorial and selective, male butterflies are heavily involved in mating. They tend to show acrobatic techniques to attract the female's attention. Despite sharing a good treaty with all other crops, this butterfly is a nightmare for the crop ramie, as the whole reproduction process takes place on it. Adults of the admiral lay eggs on leaves in which larvae emerge and feed on young tender leaves, leaving the leaves dry. The caterpillar feeds on young leaves and later fold the leaves in such manner that the pupation takes place inside the leaf. ultimately, the adult emerges as a butterfly.
