Also known as Siberian weasel these guys are widely distributed and are found in many forest habitats and open areas. They have long and stretched out bodies with relatively short legs, but are more heavily built than stoats and other weasels. Their heads are elongated, narrow and relatively small and their ears are broad at the base but short. Their tails are quite distinct and represent half their body length. Siberian weasels are monotone in color, being mostly reddish. Orange or peach tones are sometimes noticeable on the skin, however. These tones are especially bright on the back while the flanks and underbelly are paler. Their tails are more brightly colored than the back and are fluffier than those of other members of the genus. The face has a dark, coffee-brown mask that is very visible and gives these weasels a certain look which can't be confused. And they aren't picky about their shelters. They nest inside fallen logs, empty stumps, exposed tree roots etc. and sometimes use dens of other animals. And in any case, if a shelter is not found they can always make their because they are very good burrowers. Regarding their diet, they feed on rodents ranging from small to moderate size. Fish and small birds also make way into their menu.
