Altitude: 7,134 m( 23405.51ft) Gaurishankar is named after one of the forms of Lord Shiva, Shankar, and his wife Gauri. Keeping with the name, the mountain has two summits: Shankar the northern one and Gauri the southern one. And these two lofty summits are protected on all sides by steep faces and long, corniced ridges. This mountain is also significant to Buddhists and in their imagination, the mountain is the home of Tashi Tseringma, one of the five deities of long life in Tibetan Buddhism. This mountain was also taken as a reference point when Nepal decided to set its clock an odd 5 hours and 45 minutes ahead of the GMT.
