Dhole also has many other names such as Asiatic wild dog, Indian wild dog, whistling dog etc. They weigh between 12 and 20 kg and are highly social and cooperative animals because after all they are dogs. They live in organized packs of around 10 individuals where the number of males is always higher than the number of females. And there is only one breeding female in every group. Ahem! There are some characteristics of these dogs that will completely amaze you. The Dhole has some extraordinary vocal calls such as whistling, screaming and even clucking like a chicken. Moreover, it can urinate while doing a handstand on its front two legs, we kid you not! And they are to be feared as well for as a pack they can bring down animals 10 times their size. Even a tiger is no match to an experienced pack. Again, no kidding! They are really good hunters as well. Once a large prey is caught one dhole will grab the prey's nose while the rest of the pack will pull the animal down by the flanks and hindquarters. They don't use a killing bite to the throat like other big predators. Dhole's habitat includes a variety of habitats, from tropical rain forests and dry deciduous jungle to cold alpine forest and open plains.
