Dark glass brown or Jungle brown is a medium-sized, shy and weak-flying butterfly having a wingspan of 42-50 mm. There are two forms of these species; one with and the other without a white fiscal line on the underside of both wings. Though these humble species will have no intention to harm you, sometimes the jungle brown butterfly can get you into a beef. Because of its color, the butterfly has historically been called the "nigger". So if you see them in your garden, do not get too excited to call out its name aloud, as in this complex and politically sensitive world, you can be the source of a severe felony. To most of the butterfly watchers, the jungle brown could be much of an unattractive and common species. But its beauty really sparkles when one takes a closer look at the wings and the ocelli. Though they usually lurk in the shade, dark glass brown is relatively common in the grassy areas. These species are really shy and prefer not to be touched and disturbed. Unlike the Red Indian Admiral, the nigger basks in the sun, usually with its body aligned parallel to the sun's rays.
