This is a small deciduous tree with branches armed with blackish thorns. It has got scarlet flowers in dense one-sided spike-like clusters which are reddish in colour. They appear between March and April on bare branches before the new leaves. Flowers and barks of this tree are also used medicinally. The bark is used in itching, burning sensation, fever, asthma, leprosy and epilepsy.
