Common Garden lizard is the most common lizard of Nepal. One can easily find it sitting on a hedge or bush or relaxing in the sun with the mouth wide open during the hot sunny days. It has a variable coloration which changes according to the will of the lizard. Normally, they have black limbs and tail, yellow head and neck and a red body. However, similar to other animals that change their body features to attract females; common garden lizards brighten their redhead and inflate their throat to attract females during breeding season. In addition, males turn red headed after having a successful battle with the rival as a symbol of their victory.
