In a lot of ways, nuthatches are tiny woodpeckers. Highly arboreal, they never come to the ground and look for their insect treats in the nooks and crannies of trees. In many ways, it is more arboreal than woodpeckers as these guys can navigate upwards, backwards, sidewards and downwards with ease. Also unlike woodpeckers that go through a tree from bottom to top, nuthatches generally go through a tree from top to bottom. They nest in holes in trees and lay 2-6 eggs in a go.
