It is basically a shrub that is 3 m tall with numerous pale mauve (pale purple colour) flowers. The fruit of this plant becomes dark blue when ripe which is why in Nepali it is called 'Nilo' Bhusure. Nilo in Nepali means the colour blue. The fruit is also densely hairy. The pointy leaves are one of the distinctive characteristics of this plant.
