Of the 5 siblings, all of whose first name goes by Annapurna, Annapurna II is the second one. Duh! It does not lie in the top 10 tallest peaks of the world like its big brother Annapurna I but at a height of 7937 m is surely a massive beast. It is considered however a separate mountain and doesn't belong to the range although the name is associated with Annapurna. Annapurna IV and II can be considered as conjoint twins shaped as a prism with the right one towards the east being the Annapurna II. Even though it's not in the elite 8000 club it still attracts mountaineers. The first successful ascent was made in 1960 AD by a British/Indian/Nepali team led by JOM Roberts via the West Ridge approached from the north. The summit party comprised Richard Grant, Chris Bonington, and Sherpa Ang Nyima. Later, in 1973 a Japanese Katsuyuki Kondo earned the bragging rights of being the first solo climber to conquer Annapurna II.
