Sekung and Bhuturcho lakes are very close to each other (not even 1 km apart) and hence can be be reached in one single sidetrip. After leaving Larjung village and walking for about 15 minutes along the Kali Gandaki river the trail will take a sharp turn towards the north. Walk until you reach a suspension bridge and then do what every other sane person does, cross it! Thenafter the trail comes down towards the south once again. Look out for the acap sign board that shows you the direction towards the two lakes. You need to veer off the main trail and start climbing up the hill full of Fir and pine trees. All you need to do now is follow the trail. Also, look out for the blue and white markers. Sekung lake is about 4 km away from the main village of Larjung and the surrounding is more open than Bhuturcho lake's surrounding. Thus, you can get great view of Nilgiri range in the background with the pine trees and the lake in the foreground. You will also see yaks grazing here and there. There is also a festival that takes place here and is particularly famous. It's the Yak blood drinking festival. A part of Yak's neck is pierced for the blood to gush out and tumbler is placed under to collect the blood. Then the people take turns to drink the yak blood. It is believed that yak blood cures gastritis, acidity, jaundice, muscle sprain, body swelling because yaks feed on medicinal herbs like yarshagumba, jatamasi, Paanchaule. Surrounded by dense pine trees and situated northeast of Sekung lake is Bhuturcho lake. It s considered a holy lake, where fishing and killing of birds are prohibited. And during dry seasons the lake is worshipped for rain. Somewhat like Machhindranath festival in Lalitpur where Lord Machhindranath is worshipped for rain. This lake is excellent for bird watching and a panoramic view of Mt. Nilgiri, Mt. Dhaulagiri and Tukuche peak. Highest altitude: 2722m Lunch pack: necessary
