A normal morning during peak season at Poon Hill looks like an early morning concert. The small hilltop is brimming with people and anticipation. With the first glimmer of sunlight, people jostle for the best spot from which their camera can breathe in the breathtaking mountain panorama. Well sure it is commotion up there, but it is well worth the early morning hike. Just don't expect to have the mountains all to yourself. The expansive mountain view encompasses Himalchuli in the east to Dhaulagiri Range in the west. And these mountains have about a 150 km aerial distance between them!! Getting to the top isn't really a problem. There are signposts pointing upwards to 'Poon Hill' both in the lower and upper part of Ghorepani. If you are staying at the lower part, walk to the north end of the cluster to find the signboard and if you are staying at the upper part of Ghorepani, walk to centre of the town where the book shops are and look for the signboard. Once you get there, it is simply a matter of following the crowd making sure not to lose your foothold if the ground is dewed over. You should get to the top in about 45 minutes or less. Perhaps get a hot cup of tea from the small stall at the top, find a good spot and sit tight, waiting for the sun.
