Ne Guru cave is just one of the two caves in the Manang district and should be an interesting visit. You can see signboards claiming that there is a self- born statue at this cave but don't raise your expectations just yet. The cave is just over a kilometer away from Ngawal village and it will take you about 30 minutes to reach the cave. The cave is located northeast of the Ngawal village and a moderate climb is necessary. The trail to the cave starts from the left of the Ngawal gompa which eventually bends towards the right. Upon reaching the cave you will realize that the supposedly self-born statue is just a stone carving of Guru Padmasambhava. The Nepali habit of adding a religious twist to each and every interesting place will never go away. By the way, the 'guru' in refers to Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche). The more interesting thing here is definitely the cave itself, the cave whose end point has not been found yet. In fact, there was a Korean research team who came here for research purposes and even they failed to find the endpoint of the cave. Because the cave is so deep there is a legend about it as well. The legend goes that this NeGuru cave of Manang and Guru Sangpo cave of Mustang are interconnected. This claim hasn't been supported by any concrete research and so it remains a legend. From up here the views are great as well so it should be a great side trip. Altitude: 13138 ft/ 4004 m Lunch pack: not required
