Nangkartsang Peak
Nangkartsang Peak is a side trip from Dingboche, lasting 4-5 hrs (Round trip).

- Duration
- 4-5 hrs (Round trip)

- Altitude
- 5,083 m
Nangkartshang Peak (5,083m) has a small hermitage where Lama Sanga Dorje is said to have meditated which is visible from Dingboche. While it is called a peak, it is more of a viewpoint, and what a viewpoint it is!! Excepting the north, there are expansive views of Makalu to the east and Lobuche Peak to the west and everything in between. It is perhaps one of the better spots for mountain sceneries discounting Kala Patthar and is an ideal acclimatization trip. A lunch pack will be necessary for this side trip. Also please avoid this trip if it is wet or snowy. To get here climb up to the north end of the settlement and take the trail that leads to Lobuche. After 20 minutes you will reach a chorten on the ridge. This is where the trail to Lobuche and Nangkartsang separates. The trail that descends will take you to Lobuche while the trail to Nangkartsang climbs up the ridge. It is a straightforward matter from here on and if you keep to the ridge, there will be no problem at all. It is rather steep here so make sure to take frequent breathers. About an hour later there is a small trail to the right that will take you to the hermitage where Lama Sanga Dorje is said to have meditated. Another one and a half hour of scramble should bring you to the end of the trip which is gaily adorned with prayer flags. Enjoy the view and your lunch.
