Gokyo Ri is a spectacular view point at 5,483m northwest of Gokyo village. The trail from Gokyo village moves up to the end of the village and then the route moves left and moves along the Gokyo Lake. As, one is passing Gokyo lake, on the right Cho-Oyu shows its brilliant self. In 10 minutes of a trek, a two-way appears. The route on the left which moves along the lake moves toward Renjo La which can be summited in around4-5 hours. The trail on the right which moves uphill is the trail to reach the summit of Gokyo Ri. The trail is strenuous and requires a heavy ascent on a rocky trail for about 2 hrs to reach the summit. A packed lunch would not be required as the descent takes only half an hour's time. However, given the view on top, you would probably linger there much longer; hence, as a failsafe, we suggest you at least carry a few energy bars or a light lunch. You are certain to be spellbound for a few minutes with the view which is mesmerizing to say the least. 360 view of mountains can be visible with the full face of Cho-Oyu massif on the North, on the east Everest,Lhotse can be seen while on a clear day Makalu can be visible as well. Additionally, Gokyo and Lake 2 and Lake 1 can be seen with Khantega, Thamserku and other mountains on the backdrop.
