Trail Description Namge Kharka – Meta
Lunch: Namge | Altitude Variation: 4445 meters to 3636 meters | Distance Covered: 10.5 km | Time to cover distance: 6 hours | Highlights: Annapurna range and Kangaroo Himal
Namge Kharka is a destination in itself, not simply for tourists but also for the thousands who arrive here in April and May to pick yarsagumba. Their unique lifestyle is of some interest – living among herders who have brought yaks and sheep to pasture, the yarsa pickers brave sub-zero temperatures and the high altitude to scour the wind blasted mountains for yarsa all day. They while away the evenings drinking, gambling, and chewing on smoked meat, and sleep in rough shelters consisting of tarpaulins draped over low earthen and stone walls. After a few months of picking, they return to their lowland villages.
It is about 3 hours from Namge Kharka to Deurali, and trekkers are advised to keep their eyes off the amazing views and on the steep trail, which heads unrelentingly downhill. It is about 3 hours from Deurali to Meta.
