Shesha Naag Temple is a small temple located close to the Fulbari gate. If you start from the Phulbari gate, this newly built red temple shall be the first religious attraction of Nagarjun national park that you will see. Sheshnaag holds a huge importance in Hinduism. It is said that when it uncoils, the universe is created; when it recoils, the universe is destroyed. Sesha Naag is largely depicted along with Lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe, as he is said to have conquered the Naag. Thus, one can find a picture of him peacefully resting on an uncoiled Sesh Naag on the wall of the temple. Similarly, serpents are often portrayed with Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil. Thus, inside the temple, one can find photos of Lord Shiva as well as of Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom, and Goddess Bhagwati, the goddess of strength. Especially, the denotation of Lord Shiva can be found in abundance. For instance, the Trishul (trident) and Damaru (two-headed drum) standing erect on the stone are Lord Shiva's weapons; the Shiva Linga is a famous symbolic representation of Lord Shiva that one can find all over Nepal; the black stone on which the Sesha Naag sits on represents the Kailash Parvat, Lord Shiva's residential area!
