This monastery has the distinction of being the oldest one in Khumbu and was established by none other than Lama Sanga Dorje himself. Nestled in the juniper groves of the idyllic Pangboche village, the monastery holds many relics of the patron saint. There is a rock that hold the imprint of his hands while the juniper grove is supposed to have sprung from his hair. The monastery is also said to house the eyes, tongue and heart of the revered Lama in a silver casket. There used to be a 'yeti scalp' and hand here that were stolen sometime during the end of the 20th century.
