"Rocky debris that's fallen from the surrounding cliffs gives the glacier a grey, and dirty appearance" The first thing that you need to know about this glacier is that it is not a handsome one. But that doesn't matter. This is one of the boldest and longest glaciers in Himalaya with a striking surface length of 36 km. One amazing fact about glaciers is that given enough time they will have shifted to another place. This is possible from the stress induced from its own weight and Ngozumpa glacier is no exception to this. For all the nice things we could say about this amazing piece of ice, we cannot forget to mention that it is seeping! In other words, the glacier is reacting to global warming by creating small lakes at various spots in its surface. This is not an imminent threat but in the next 20 years a 6 km long lake will have formed here. And this will be a threat to the Sherpa villages on the trail.
